Sing a Song...

On Monday, momstown Whitby-Ajax members met up for their weekly toddler playgroup. This week's playgroup focused on the nursery rhymes: Sing A Song Of Sixpence, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and Humpty Dumpty.

We started off the playgroup with a quick circle time... where we went over each one of the nursery rhymes.

"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, And all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again!"

"Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Wasn't that a dainty dish,
To set before the king?"

"Baa, baa, black sheep,
Have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir,
Three bags full.
One for the master,
One for the dame,
And one for the little boy
Who lives down the lane."

Following circle time the kids got right into making the crafts.

We had such a fun time learning new nursery rhymes! And I know other momstown chapters have too... momstown Newmarket - Aurora recently gathered to learn about the Five Little Ducks.

Kiddie Play & Java Chat

This morning the mamas of momstown Whitby-Ajax met up at Nicole's to enjoy a good 'ol java chat while the kiddies played. Our java chats are always a welcome break to our Moms. It gives the Moms a chance to enjoy some adult conversation. It also gives the chance for our kiddies to socialize and play with one another. It's a win-win combination.

Our Kiddie Play & Java Chat group runs monthly, so if you missed out on this one no worries. Our next one is scheduled for mid-April, so be sure to head on over to our calendar to RSVP.

I couldn't imagine a better way to end off a busy week... then with a coffee, my kidlets and the awesome company of our momstown members!!

Fussy Foodies Seminar with Nanny Robina

Nanny Robina (well known for her appearances on Slice TV's The Mom Show and City TV's City Line) will be hosting a great session on April 7 from 7PM to 9PM at Creative Play... What will this session cover? Fussy Foodies!

Has your once wonderful little eater suddenly become fussy? Don't worry, you're not alone! Picky eaters, especially toddlers, typically resume normal eating habits in no time.

Stop stressing over just how much food has been eaten and how much has been thrown across the floor. Come and join me at this work shop and find out what it takes to prevent your child from ever becoming a picky eater! I will start with the introduction to baby food, textures and taste; do you know why many babies refuse to eat?

Or are they just telling you they are ready to be rid of the runny food and move on more solid food!

You'll leave the class with the parenting tools that will aid you in putting-the-breaks to bad behaviour, reinforce positive behaviour and coping with those unwanted shenanigans at the table. Plus, I will teach you the tricks of introducing new foods without the food war. You do not have to hide the veggies in order to have your child except them and eat them!

The fee is just $20/mom. momstown members can pay via paypal right from the event listing on our calendar, but if you or a friend have not yet joined momstown but would like to attend the seminar, please email info.whitby-ajax@momstown.ca and directions to the location will be given to you and payment arrangements can be made! All registrants must pre-pay for this class!

St. Paddy's Day Party!

Today momstown Whitby-Ajax Moms and Tots gathered at Nicole's house for a fun green-themed playgroup. The tots were all a little too young for crafts, so we just gathered in the family room and let the babies play...

or in some cases... sleep.

The Moms got to enjoy a nice potluck lunch, and some good Mommy chat!! Now I just need to figure out what to do with all the leftovers....

Perhaps, I'll munch on them later this evening while I enjoy a green beer. No reason why we can't continue to celebrate the occasion... He, he!

Everyone had such a great time today! We can't wait to all get together again soon!

And Then There Were Two...

It's been 4 weeks now since the home delivery of my son. I can't believe how quickly the past month has gone by. Time truly has flown! I guess that is what happens when you're barely sleeping and VERY busy.

In the past 4 weeks I've learned a lot about myself. I was very stubborn going into having the second child thinking that if the first child was easy-going; that it would be just as easy-going with two children. Boy was I ever surprised when I quickly realized the transition to Mom of two wasn't panning out the way I had envisioned it would.

My daughter was always one that slept. You were able to put her down and go about your day. You didn't have to worry about not getting that shower in or dinner prepared. You didn't have to worry about finding time for you. It was manageable. My son on the other hand is the complete opposite of her. From day one he has refused to sleep anywhere, but on me. He is a boob man (which I totally love and am embracing... Breastfeeding never worked out with my daughter). My son barely sleeps... I'm lucky if I walk away with two broken hours a night. Managing time has not been easy, and the every day stuff really stresses me out. When am I going to... Eat? Shower? Make dinner? The day-to-day stuff doesn't come as easily as I had expected.  I often find myself easily upset and teary... Simply for that fact that I feel like a failure (there is no nicer way to put it)... The fact of the matter is that I'm not "Super Mom" and I need to learn that.

What I'm coming to realize through all of this is:

  • Accept help when offered and ask when needed. momstown has been great for that. We have so many awesome members that have offered assistance. (Just know how much I appreciate it and would do the same for y'all.)
  • Sleep when the baby sleeps. (No really try to do it!) With the lack of sleep at night, any rest at this point is crucial.
  • Don't sweat the small stuff.
  • The crock pot is your "friend".

Overall, being a Mom of 2 has been great so far. It has had it's ups and it's downs, but that's expected. It's been amazing to watch my husband and daughter both fall in love with Cameron. From the moment Cameron was delivered we felt this instant connection. It's honestly felt like he's been part of the family forever... Looking back we can't imagine him not being in our lives. The recovery both emotionally and physically has been much harder this time, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat if it meant that I got to hold this little cutie in my arms. My family and I feel truly blessed! AND - I'm sure as time goes on things will get easier... (They will get easier... right?!?!)

Let's Wiggle!

Looking for a fun weekday outing with your infant? Would you also like to get active too? Why not check out this fun upcoming event that will allow you both to bond with your infant all whilst getting fit at the same time... It's the best of both worlds!
Join us on the morning of March 30th for our Wiggle & Fit trial class at Mindful Balance. We invite all Moms with children aged 0 to walking out to wiggle with their little ones. This class is a combination of mom & baby exercises with our wee wigglers 'angels' program. This class begins with cardio, strength & pilates exercises that are designed for new moms to do with their baby, followed by a music & movement program to enhance physical, social and intellectual development. This class is a great opportunity for mothers to mingle and to enhance the mother and baby bond in a fun and social environment.

This class generally costs $11.00, but we will be able attend this momstown Whitby-Ajax exclusive event at the rate of $5.00... That's savings of $6.00!! Who says being a member doesn't have its perks?!

If you would like further information or to RSVP to attend the event, please email Nicole at info-whitby.ajax@momstown.ca to find out how.

Hope to see you there!
