The Perfect Mother's Day Gift

Last year marked my 1st Mother's Day as a Mom. It's crazy how quickly time can go by, and how much ones life can change in just a year. But that is entirely a whole OTHER post!

The reason behind this post... Mother's Day!

I still remember my husband asking me last year what I wanted... and I had absolutely no clue. Absolutely no suggestions. I was at a loss. This was at a point where I was not involved in momstown, so I didn't quite "get" how much momstown rocks. So in the end what did I end up getting for Mother's Day... flowers. Not that flowers aren't great... I just wish I could have thought of an idea of something that lasted much longer, then... well... flowers!

Ever since I launched momstown Whitby-Ajax in July, I've had friends and complete strangers contact me to tell me how much they love momstown. They love that they are able to get out of the house, meet new people and socialize with other adults; all whilst their children socialize and have fun with other children. It's truly a fantastic and fun experience!

So this Mother's Day why not give your favorite Mom friend, Mom, Wife, Sister or Daughter a momstown Gift Certificate. A momstown gift certificate is truly the perfect Mother's Day gift!

Keep watch for our upcoming May newsletter for sweet Mother's Day deals on a momstown membership purchase or renewal!

Lil' Bunnies Easter Party

Afsha was kind enough to welcome the momstown Whitby-Ajax mamas and their lil' bunnies into her home this morning for a playgroup geared around Easter.

The playdate was hopping with a lot of fun for the little bunnies. There was something for little ones of all ages to take part in. There was an infant area and a small easter egg hunt for the toddlers and preschoolers.

The kids were all very quick to make friends with one another. Some even went as far as to share their "first kiss". What can I say except they like to move quickly these days?! I wish I had had my camera to snap up that adorable moment, but alas I missed it.

While the little bunnies played, the Moms got to enjoy some lovely Mommy chat over a nice lunch. Afsha did a marvelous job at setting up our potluck lunch. There was everything from spring rolls, egg salad sandwiches, fruit, cookies, muffins, candy... Needless to say we all walked away with a very satisified tummy! To me a satisfied tummy is a BIG deal. With an infant and a toddler I rarely ever have the 'right' time to eat, so I really look forward to these playdates where I have that extra bit of help and adult conversation. Plus it is so nice to watch the little ones bond and socialize with one another!

After a bit of lunch and some more playtime, we decided to call it a day! The kids all had a hard time saying goodbye. Some even discovered new favorite toys... that perhaps.... Mr. Easter Bunny might just have to bring them? Only time will tell.

We can't wait to get together again soon! Next week we have Picasso's In My Yard and Spring Fling. So if you missed out today, there is always another welcomed opportunity to participate. Be sure to visit momstown Whitby-Ajax to join in on the fun!

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Easter!

On a side note if you are looking for some easy make-ahead Easter breakfast ideas be sure to pop on over to momstown meals for some inspiration. There's some really great recipes to test out!!

The Big Cook

Yesterday afternoon momstown Whitby-Ajax mamas gathered for a couple of hours for the momstown Big Cook.

Now I'm sure you must be wondering... How does the Big Cook work?  We split in to teams of two. Each participating Mom picked two recipes from The Big Cook cookbook.  Each team member was in charge of preparing two batches of each recipe. When we met yesterday we exchanged the yummy pre-prepped meals. Each Mom walked away with 6 meals.... and now has a fully stocked freezer!

Being that most of our Moms have very young children... this event was such a hit! It's hard going from day-to-day trying to find time to cook a meal. Now we won't have to worry about that for a while.

The momstown Big Cook event has been quite successful amongst many other chapters: momstown Guelph, momstown Burlington, momstown Toronto - Bloorwest, and more! Interested in taking part? Visit momstown.ca to join a chapter nearest you!

Life Of A "Mombie"

MOMBIE n: Mother who embodies Zombie-like qualities after months of sleep deprivation. (Source: Kid Dictionary)

As days and days go on, I've come to terms with the fact that I am indeed a "Mombie". Being a mama to a 20 month old and an 7.5 week old certainly does take it's toll... between lack of sleep, keeping up with the house, work and chasing the young'uns around. Sleep? What is that again? It just isn't happening around here these days... and you know what?!? I wouldn't trade it for anything.

The lack of sleep has made for some pretty funny "mombie" moments, and great stories.

I remember there was one night (long before my son was born) that I heard my daughter crying over the monitor. I guess I never fully woke up because I picked up the monitor and started trying to nurse it... Yea... Can you imagine my husbands reaction when he woke up and had to snap me out of my 'zombie' state?!

Another time, I was in the midst of changing my sons diaper and I could tell by his face that he was about to let poop fly (y'know that gross breastfeeding poop?!)... Well rather than grabbing another diaper quickly, what did I do? I just cupped both my hands together and prepared to catch it. What was I thinking?! Clearly I wasn't. Such a gross moment, but one I always look back on and can't help but laugh.

And of course... there's the moments of putting things in the wrongs spots, and calling my children by the wrong names.

Back in the day when I dealt with my daughters night feeds, I had no one to talk to. The hubby was sleeping. I didn't bring my laptop to bed. I didn't have a smart phone. I just relied heavily on the not-so-lovely infomercials to get me through. Now that I'm nursing my son things are a bit different. I have access to a smart phone, and my cable is now cut back. The smart phone is what I rely on heavily in the middle of the night. I bounce between the momstown message boards, Facebook and Twitter all night long. With all these late night feeds, I've really become a social media addict as of late and I LOVE it!

Long before my days of momstown, I vowed I would never ever use Twitter and you know what... I'm glad I started to! I've found and formed some pretty great friendships with other Moms through both momstown and Twitter. If you don't have access to a momstown chapter near you, I suggest you check out Twitter. And if you do... why not check out both? One of my favorite Twitter hashtags to follow is #zombiemoms. This hashtag is used by Moms to discuss everything from pregnancy, newborns, sleepless nights, mombie moments, etc.  It's been great! The women are all amazing and supportive! I'm so grateful to have such an amazing support system both in real life and online to lean on, and get me through day-to-day. It makes you wonder how our parents managed back in the day without all these gadgets or social media outlets.

(Today) In celebration of #zombiemoms day, why not jump on Twitter and share with us one of your fondest 'mombie' moments! We'd love to hear about it and share with you.

A little birdie tells me that momstown Winnipeg is a Mombie too.
